Grewal Law’s own Managing Litigation Attorney, David S. Mittleman, recently had the honor of discussing the process of representing sexual assault victims at the Michigan Association for Justice.
On August 14th, Attorney Mittleman gave his presentation to the Michigan Association for Justice on areas including recognizing victims’ claims, how to go about investigating those claims, as well as practicing patience and discretion on behalf of victims during the duration of long cases. Specifically, he talked about this process as it applied to representing 111 of the 333 young women who eventually won a $500 million settlement with Michigan State University in the Larry Nassar case.
By blogging on the Legal Examiner platform, Attorney Mittleman was able to gain specific insight and knowledge that helped him not only learn more on behalf of Nassar’s victims, but also spread awareness on the details of the case. Attorney Mittleman and Grewal Law worked with skilled investigative journalists operating on a local, regional, statewide, national, and international level, too, to speak up on behalf of survivors who had been silenced.
In his presentation to the Michigan Association for Justice, Attorney Mittleman shared his thoughts on how Nassar was able to get away with his unthinkable crimes, molesting well over 500 survivors that we know of over many years. Furthermore, he discussed how MSU, the US Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics, and even the FBI managed to fail so egregiously in defending young athletes.
