Four people, including three firefighters, were injured in a Saturday morning auto accident near Grattan Township, Michigan. The firefighters were en route to a downed power line and tree fire when the crash occurred. Initial reports suggest that an oncoming motorist swerved, struck a guardrail, and then re-entered traffic, striking the fire truck head-on. Alcohol may have been a factor in the early-morning collision.
After the accident, the firefighters exited through a window and provided initial medical care to the other victim.
Driving at night presents special challenges. Without ambient light, it can be difficult or impossible to see obstacles just off the road or beyond your headlights. Gauging distances can be extremely difficult. Decreased visibility can result in less time to react to hazards, so be sure to avoid high speeds. In addition, drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving.
